LATEST WONDER DRUGS FOR MIGRAINE
Migraine is the seventh most cause of disability according to Global Disease burden survey of 2015.
Migaraineurs have a good news. Three new drugs were recently approved by US FDA for migraine treatment and they are associated with excellent migraine attack reduction according to studies.
All these drugs target a chemical in our brain called CGRP (Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide). CGRP is a potent vasodilator and it causes inflammation of the brain covering called meninges. This mechanism of action of CGRP plays a central role in migraine pathophysiology. The new drugs targets this molecule, ie CGRP and reduced the intensity and number of attacks of migraine. These drugs comes under the category of monoclonal antibodies. They are effective and devoid of severe adverse reactions.
